Schrödinger at 75 Day 1

#whatislife75  None of today’s speakers linked sunlight from the physiology of pheromone-controlled reproduction in soil bacteria to biophysically constrained viral latency in the context of quantum effects on supercoiled DNA.

What is Life? (1944)

Indeed, in the case of higher animals we know the kind of orderliness they feed upon well enough, viz. the extremely well-ordered state of matter in more or less complicated organic compounds, which serve them as foodstuffs. After utilizing it they return it in a very much degraded form -not entirely degraded, however, for plants can still make use of it. (These, of course, have their most power supply of ‘negative entropy’ the sunlight.) (pp. 73 and 74)

How often do we still hear that quantum effects can have little relevance in the study of biology, or even that we eat food in order to gain energy? Roger Penrose – 8 August 1991)

None of today’s speakers linked sunlight from the physiology of pheromone-controlled reproduction in soil bacteria to biophysically constrained viral latency in the context of quantum effects on supercoiled DNA. See for comparison:

Cancer mutations and targeted drugs can disrupt dynamic signal encoding by the Ras-Erk pathway

1) They used optogenetic tools to precisely control the temporal dynamics of quantized energy-dependent signal transduction pathways and gene expression.

2) They investigated the effects of mutations by modulating the frequency of gene activation.

3) They predictably found a link from light activated microRNA biogenesis and the virus-driven degradation of messenger RNA that links mutations to all pathology.

Simply put, they linked everything known to serious scientists about biophysically constrained autophagy to healthy longevity without mentioning the need for viral latency.

4) They showed that responsiveness to quantized energy-dependent growth factor simulation made transitions between active and inactive conformations, which suggests that virus-driven energy theft does not always cause oncogenically activated proteins to be locked into an active state.

That means light-activated microRNA biogenesis is the obvious regulator of cell type differentiation as indicated in Ultraviolet Absorption Induces Hydrogen-Atom Transfer in G⋅C Watson–Crick DNA Base Pairs in Solution and in UV-Induced Charge Transfer States in DNA Promote Sequence Selective Self-Repair. That fact links optogenetics from RNA interference to fixation of amino acid substitutions that differentiate all cell types in all individuals of all species.

However, the fact that virucidal light-activated microRNA biogenesis was not linked from hydrogen-atom transfer in DNA base pairs in solution to RNA-mediated sequence selective DNA repair via natural selection for energy-dependent codon optimality was missing from presentations during day 1 of Schrödinger at 75 – The Future of Biology – September 5, 2018.

See the comments on presentations by Ada Yonath, Kay M. Tye, Murray Shanahan, Saul Kato, Leroy Hood, John O’Keefe, Daniel Dennett, Karl Deisseroth, Svante Paabo, Beth Shapiro and Feng Zhang.

“How can we understand who we are or where we’re going if we don’t know where we’ve been?” Jane Ohlmeyer explains why she (a historian) is with us at forward-looking #whatislife75 – beautifully said!

Agreed. See: Science, state, and spirituality: Stories of four creationists in South Korea. Our historical study will thus explain why South Korea became what Ronald Numbers has called “the creationist capital of the world.”

Session 2 of #whatislife75. Ada Yonath contends that a highly-conserved area at the heart of the ribosome is the entity around which life has evolved, starting from a pre-biotic, RNA-dominated world. “Chicken or egg? The proto-ribosome!”

The pre-biotic, RNA-dominated world was linked from the creation of virucidal sunlight to the creation of ATP and the creation of RNA by McEwen et al., (1964) What “evolved?”

Ada Yonath: World Bank estimated that just under 4% of world economy will be lost to antibiotic resistance by 2020 but research investment is still minimal…. #whatislife75

SeeThe role of epigenetic alterations involved in sepsis: An overview”  Death from C. diff sepsis or mental disability from A. baummannii could be prevented if more people learned about the bacteriophages (viruses) that cause antibiotic resistance.

How can the same mechanism underlie fear and reward conditioning? And what does it mean for voter behaviour? Fascinating talk by @kaymtye @MIT The Future of Emotion #whatislife75 #Schrodinger75

Thanks for asking. The quantized energy-dependent molecular mechanisms are the same. They biophysically constrain viral latency. That is why the fear of viruses was placed into the context of this cell biology game for ages 10+

@kaymtye makes a persuasive argument for why us non-neuroscientists should care about how homeostatic need affects emotion… #WhatIsLife75

Bruce McEwen has been making this case for more than 50 years. See:  Redefining neuroendocrinology: Epigenetics of brain-body communication over the life course. In the early 90’s, he taught me to start with gene activation, which led me Schrodinger’s work.

Fascinating talks from Murray Shanahan and Saul Kato on AI and computational biology, my brain is expanding today

Murray Shanahan: “An autonomous vehicle doesn’t really know what a car is.” Artificial intelligence has come a long way; artificial general intelligence not so much. Common sense, abstract concepts and creativity still obstacles; no prediction for arrival date… #WhatIsLife75

Saul Kato: DNA was the first big data project. Now we live in an age of excessive data: computational biology helps interpretation when you can’t tell what a system does “just by looking”. Frontiers: development over time & biological computation – “the game is on.” #whatislife75

Karl Deisseroth: far from the debunked canard about 10% of your brain: more than half firing even for drinking water. We can now monitor – and modify – global neural activity down to individual cells, just 14 years on from first crude experiments with optogenetics #whatislife75

I have photos of light-tracking in Brugmansia that link the creation of sunlight and water across kingdoms to all extant biodiversity via light-activated microRNA biogenesis. This is like rediscovering the fact that Darwin’s finches needed food to reproduce.

Leroy Hood: personalised data clouds from “deep phenotyping” of volunteers made many people realise they weren’t as well as they thought they were. Using those clouds to construct scientific wellness programmes could help more of us become “wellderly” – never sick in our lives

Feng Zhang describes the new gene editing tools joining CRISPR-CAS9: beyond those already in development, looking at 9000(?!) candidates, and even that is just the tip of the iceberg as more bacteria and archaean genomes are sequenced #whatislife75

“…as more bacteria and archaean genomes are sequenced” it will become even clearer that neo-Darwinian theorists got it all wrong. Polycombic ecological adaptations require food and viruses steal the food energy to replicate. See: https://advances.sciencemag.org/content/2/10/e1600492

The game continues

Daniel Dennet, who promotes atheism, spoke about the evolution of information. He is an example of how social science has prevented scientific progress that has linked the creation of sunlight to the origin of information. See for example: The origin of information (2)

Let’s answer @danieldennett’s question: When is simplification over-simplification? #WhatIsLife75

See: Food energy and human idiocy. In the reprint edition of What is Life? Roger Penrose asked: “How often do we still hear that quantum effects can have little relevance in the study of biology, or even that we eat food in order to gain energy?”

Svante Paabo showing the surprisingly small number of fixed DNA sequence diffs b/w Neanderthals and modern humans… #WhatIsLife75

You should probably face the fact that fixation of one energy-dependent base pair change in one amino acid substitution is the link from the EDAR V370A allele in mice to differences and similarities in modern humans found in Asia + New World populations. Environmental selection during the last ice age on the mother-to-infant transmission of vitamin D and fatty acids through breast milk

For comparison what’s the equivalent distance to our ape cousins?

In the context of an angstroms to ecosystems model, “…the so-called alpha chains of hemoglobin have identical sequences of amino acids in man and the chimpanzee, but they differ in a single amino acid (out of 141) in the gorilla (p. 127).”

Neo-Darwian theorists and other pseudoscientist hate me for exposing them to more ridicule than they ever thought they would encounter after they abandoned Darwin’s claims about “conditions of life.”

Sad to see that Linda Buck is missing, especially after learning about the nonsense Daniel Dennett included in his keynote address. See for comparison: Feedback loops link odor and pheromone signaling with reproduction (2005)

See: https://www.pnas.org/content/early/2018/08/24/1802905115 “… attenuating feedback decreases fitness by promoting a reversible silenced state. Together, these results identify a regulatory mechanism enabling herpesviruses to sustain expression…” which links the virus-driven degradation of messenger RNA to
