Cookbook chemistry: food odors and hormones

Sexy food: Turning up the heat for Valentine’s Day

By DIANE PETERSON: THE PRESS DEMOCRAT

Excerpt: “There are some wines that doctors have shown replicate human pheromone scents,” Reiley added. “Just the aroma alone can add to the layer of attraction.”

I’m not sure which doctors might have shown this, but the effect of food odors (e.g., cookbook chemistry) on hormones involved in behavior is widely known. This makes me wonder why the effect of social odors (e.g., human pheromones) on hormones is not both widely known and accepted as a biological fact, whether or not some doctor shows it. It’s common sense! Isn’t it?
